THORNDYKE MAKES GAINS IN NCATS SEASON OPENER

Racer David Thorndyke and the #67 LubeSource/Thorsons EVT Chevrolet hit the track at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on Sunday looking for another strong outing in the opening round of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series this past Sunday. While they would have liked a higher finishing position, Thorndyke and the team were happy with their weekends work. After not receiving their race motor until just before the first event Thorndyke and the #67 LubeSource/EVT Chevrolet turned their first laps of the season during the opening practice session. "We really would have liked to get out testing prior to the season but that didn't happen," said Thorndyke. The team made adjustments and worked to improve the handling of the #67 LubeSource/EVT Chevrolet during practice but ran into trouble during the qualifying session. "I knew we had a problem right away" explained the driver. "It felt like we had a wheel loose and the team saw something was wrong from the look of the car. A mount for the Watts link was broken and the result was Thorndyke would start the 51-lap feature event from the 24th position. Thorndyke began looking to improve his position right from the start and had some success. "With that issue corrected the car felt great all afternoon," said Thorndyke. The strategy planned by the #67 LubeSource/EVT Chevrolet team was to pit early and as the other competitors cycled through they would benefit with improved track position. However a long green flag run to start the race and multiple cautions later in the race worked against them. Still with a determined effort behind wheel Thorndyke moved the #67 LubeSource/EVT Chevrolet forward five positions during the race. "I was really happy with the car, there was some good dicing out there with other drivers and we went forward during the race. There's barely a mark on the car, all in all a pretty good day for us" summarized Thorndyke. HARD FOUGHT RESULT FOR THORNDYKE

David Thorndyke was back at the wheel of the #67 Lubesource/Thorsons EVT Chevrolet for round number nine of the NASCAR Canadian Tire series this past weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP). Once again Thorndyke was a consistent performer and made significant gains in position during the race. Following their best result in the series during the earlier series event at CTMP earlier this year the #67 Lubesource/Thorsons EVT Chevrolet team felt confident they would achieve positive results again. Fluid on the track during the practice session caused Thorndyke to spin and only get a few laps of track time during the first session. Thorndyke would qualify the #67 Lubesource/Thorsons EVT Chevrolet in the 27th position. When starting deep in the field the first concern is staying out of trouble early. "That went according to plan" said Thorndyke. "We didn't get into any tangles with anyone and gave everyone lots of room early on." The rest of the race was more of a struggle for the #67 Lubesource/Thorsons EVT Chevrolet driver. "It was a hot day and my water bottle didn't work, then when I was going through corner nine with some other traffic and tried to go down to second gear there was just a lot of crunching" stated Thorndyke. Thorndyke would wrestle with the #67 Lubesource/Thorsons EVT Chevrolet the rest of the afternoon while also trying to run laps as quickly as possible around the 10 turn track. "Sometimes I had third if I was gentle with it but most of the day it was only fourth gear" he stated. Using all his driving skills to coax the #67 Lubesource/Thorsons EVT Chevrolet to the finish Thorndyke crossed the line 19th, actually gaining eight positions with a race car at far less than 100%. "We're thrilled with how we finished, to get that kind of a result with the troubles we had is awfully good" said Thorndyke. "It's been a lot of fun to be at the track for these events this year, and we're looking forward to learning and improving again for our next time out" he added. This event concluded the racing season for the #67 Lubesource/Thorsons EVT Chevrolet team. GREAT PERFORMANCE BY THORNDYKE IN NCATS OPENER

The stars aligned for David Thorndyke at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on Sunday – a quick vehicle, skilled driving and an attentive crew lead to #67 to the most improved run of the day and a satisfying finish at the Clarington 200. Thorndyke and his crew were extremely pleased with the performance of their #67 LubeSource/Thorsons EVT Chevrolet in practice, as the vehicle ran much faster than in previous starts. Much to their delight, the team saw an improvement in the car's speed in qualifying, regardless of the 26th place qualifying time. When the race kicked off at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, the team opted for a cautious start as they looked to navigate their way from the back of the field. #67 ran into a mechanical hiccup early on due to a shifter malfunctioning, but quick thinking by crew member Adam Thorndyke resolved the issue by climbing in the window during a scheduled fuel stop. That stop would be the last time the vehicle would see the pit for the remaining laps, as the team opted to keep the same set of tires for the rest of the day. In order to preserve the performance of their lone set of tires, Thorndyke was careful to utilize patience and skill in collecting positions – and his strategy paid off immensely. #67 moved up a remarkable 15 spots throughout the course of the race, more than any other driver, and ultimately crossed the finish line in 11th place – a career-best series result for Thorndyke. Not surprisingly, he called the day "thrilling." "We felt really good about the car and our chances all weekend. It's a nice reward for the whole team that worked so hard," he said after the race. "Hopefully we can find a few more things and continue to improve in our next outing."
