In only his second appearance of the season, David Thorndyke had a tall order to fight his way from last place in the Clarington 200. Despite inconsistent race appearances in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series this season, Torndyke showed his ability to gain positions in the season opener, where he collected an impressive 14 positions. His #67 LubeSource Chevrolet was so good in the first practice, the team opted to not run the final practice. "We know what we had, so we didn't want to work our equipment too hard," Crew Chief Adam Thorndyke said. Despite the solid car, the team struggled during qualifying, and in one session there was a lot of fluid on the track despite thorough cleanup attempts. The team also battled a very congested field, with 36 cars in this race's line up. Thorndyke qualified last place – 36th. "The other issue was getting a clear lap, I just couldn't get a clean lap without traffic," #67 said after qualifying. "We're not worried about it, we came from deep in the field in the spring," The team opted to use the same strategy that paid off so well earlier in the season, by remaining patient and methodical. #67 worked hard to avoid trouble, which was not an easy task in a race that ended up recording a record six cautions. Thorndyke continued to push forward, choosing to pit for fuel and not take tires in an attempt to improve track position. #67's tactic paid off beautifully, he gained 14 spots before the race was called under a red flag due to a multivehicle accident. He recorded a 22nd place finish. "I'm really happy with how our race went, the car doesn't have a mark on it and we gained a lot of spots," Thorndyke said. " We're really happy for our partners LubeSource and ThreeWorks Snacks. We're a small, part-time team but we really made the most out of our day and I've got to thank everyone for working so hard." David Thorndyke and the #67 LubeSource Chevrolet team have completed their racing schedule for the 2013 season. In the weeks ahead they will begin planning for 2014. They encourage all race fans to enjoy the final oval events in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series at Barrie & Kawartha.
