THORNDYKE GAINS SPOTS DURING TOTAL QUARTZ 200 AT CTMP

David Thorndyke and the #67 Thorsons EVT Chevrolet team returned to action this past Sunday in round number ten of the 2019 NASCAR Pinty’s Series at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) near Bowmanville, Ontario and as has occurred so many times previously, Thorndyke persevered to gain positions during the race, and on this afternoon collected six spots before taking the checkered flag.

It was a bit of a scrambled start for the #67 Thorsons EVT Chevrolet team as they battled electrical gremlins prior to the Saturday afternoon practice session.

“It’s just one of those things” said Car Chief Adam Thorndyke. “Everything fired up and ran great the day before, we had to chase it a little, but we got it sorted out” he added.

During the practice session David Thorndyke completed 18 laps in the #67 Thorsons EVT Chevrolet to get reacquainted with the track and fine tune the handling of the car. Thorndyke would line up in the final row of the starting grid but as usual would end the day well forward of his starting spot.

When the green flag waved on the 51-lap race Thorndyke was methodical in his approach with the #67 Thorsons EVT Chevrolet. Be consistent all day, look for opportunities to gain position and have good pit stops. It’s a strategy that has served them well in the past.

Aggressive actions by others though took a toll on the #67 Thorsons EVT Chevrolet.

"Guys made it three wide going into corner three” explained Thorndyke, of course we had contact and it broke our exhaust system. We had to make two pit stops and it cost us six laps to make repairs” he added.

Thorndyke continued working hard in the #67 Thorsons EVT Chevrolet when late race contact would make the job harder still.

“Another driver had a flat tire and was dropping debris on the track” explained driver David Thorndyke. “I was trying to avoid it when he chopped across the front of the car trying to get to pit lane”.

Bringing the #67 Thorsons EVT Chevrolet to his pit stall for service the team worked to secure the bodywork before returning to the track. Later NASCAR officials would again order the car back for further repairs.

“Having all that drama at the end wasn’t necessary, but the car was good for us today” said the driver. “I was able to mix it up and race with guys. We picked up a bunch of spots from the start as we always do and even with the contact, we came out with a nice improvement on the day” he added.

David Thorndyke and the #67 Thorsons EVT Chevrolet team would like to thank all the fans that support them and the NASCAR Pinty’s Series. This is the final event for the team in 2019 but they will return once again in 2020.

THORNDYKE TACKLES TORONTO

Driver David Thorndyke returned to action a little sooner than expected, participating in round number four of the NASCAR Pinty’s Series this past Saturday at Exhibition Place in Toronto as part of the Indy weekend. Instead of his usual number #67 Thorndyke piloted the #56 RC Trailers / B&B Decals / Aielli / Strodes Chevrolet in collaboration with longtime racer Jim Bray. “The whole thing came together pretty quickly” joked Thorndyke before hitting the track. “Jim and I talked a couple of days ago about working together and before I knew it, we were coming to Toronto” he added. During the practice session Thorndyke struggled getting comfortable in the #56 RC Trailers / B&B Decals / Aielli / Strodes Chevrolet. “Never having driven this car before I had to get used to the pedals and everything else being a little different than my car” he explained. “It got better as the day went along”. A significant storm delayed the start of the Pinty’s Grand Prix but once the race began the action was fierce. “Guys got after it pretty quickly out there” said Thorndyke. “I knew I just had to be patient and run my race”. Staying out of the way of others Thorndyke thoughtfully ran lap after lap in the #56 RC Trailers / B&B Decals / Aielli / Strodes Chevrolet and improved his time with almost every lap and moved forward in the field. “I’m pretty happy with how things came out” said Thorndyke. “I’m glad the rain moved out and we got to run in the dry. With each lap the car felt better too and I was able to pick up some speed as the race moved along. All in all, we had a good day picking up some spots and the car looks the same as when we went out on track”. “I want to thank Jim Bray for making this happen. THORNDYKE HIT WITH MECHANICAL ISSUES

David Thorndyke and the #67 Thorsons EVT Chevrolet team arrived at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park ready for competition in round one of the 2019 NASCAR Pinty’s Series this past weekend. After a very positive start to the weekend during Saturday’s practice session a series of mechanical misfortunes ended their race prematurely. Taking the #67 Thorsons EVT Chevrolet Camaro out for the first laps of the season Thorndyke and the team were pleased with the results. Completing 26 laps during the one-hour practice session the team worked to improve their performance for the race on Sunday. During the Saturday qualifying session however the same performance wasn’t possible. Only completing three laps the team then went to work diagnosing the problem and found an issue with the transmission. The team acquired a replacement from another team but weren’t sure if they’d be able to complete the 200km race. “We didn’t want to abuse the borrowed equipment but thought we’d see how it goes and decide if we were able to run the full race,” explained Thorndyke. Thorndyke took a cautious approach from the start of the race not pushing the #67 Thorsons EVT Chevrolet too hard. After a few laps the team felt confident enough to keep going. Regrettably another issue, this time with the fuel pump, would bring their day to a premature conclusion. “I couldn’t believe it,” said Thorndyke. “I was taking it super easy and making sure not to get in anyone’s way and the damn fuel pump gives up. It’s a shame; we’ve never come here and had a car that handled this well from the start of practice. It was a mechanical failure for both issues, but it’s frustrating. We never got a chance to show what we could do during the race”.
